Description

Soft, fluffy bread buns stuffed with gooey melted cheese — a perfect comfort food for breakfast, snacks, or as a side dish.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (about 110°F or 43°C)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or a cheese blend of your choice)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and melted butter. Mix until a sticky dough forms.
  3. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal portions. Flatten each into a disc, add 1 tablespoon of shredded cheese in the center, and fold edges over to seal into a ball.
  6. Place the buns seam-side down on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Cover and let rise again for 30 minutes until puffy.
  7. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Beat the egg and brush it over the tops of the buns.
  8. Bake for 20–25 minutes or until golden brown and slightly crisp on top.
  9. Cool for 10 minutes before serving. Enjoy warm with gooey cheese inside!

Notes

  • Seal buns well to prevent cheese from leaking during baking.
  • Use a mix of cheeses like cheddar and mozzarella for extra flavor.
  • Add herbs or spices directly into the dough for customization.
  • Brush with milk or butter instead of egg wash for an egg-free version.
  • Freeze baked buns and reheat as needed for quick snacks.
