Description

Catch a Husband Cake is a classic Brazilian-inspired dessert with a soft, custard-like center and a golden top. Made from simple pantry ingredients, it’s creamy, comforting, and incredibly easy to prepare.

Ingredients

  • 1 can (14 oz / 395 g) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 can whole milk (use empty condensed milk can to measure)
  • 3 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (125 g)
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • Butter or neutral oil, for greasing the pan
  • Optional: a pinch of salt
  • Optional: 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease a 9-inch round or rectangular baking dish and set aside.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk the eggs until lightly beaten.
  3. Add sweetened condensed milk and mix until smooth.
  4. Pour in whole milk and stir gently to combine.
  5. Add melted butter and mix again.
  6. Gradually add the flour, whisking until the batter is smooth and lump-free.
  7. If using, mix in the salt and vanilla extract.
  8. Pour the thin batter into the prepared baking dish.
  9. Bake for 45 to 55 minutes, or until the top is lightly golden and the center is set but slightly soft.
  10. Remove from oven and let cool completely in the pan. The texture will firm up as it cools.

Notes

  • Use a glass or metal baking dish, but ensure it is well greased to prevent sticking.
  • For a hint of citrus, add 1 tsp lemon or orange zest to the batter.
  • Serve chilled or at room temperature for best texture.
  • Do not freeze, as it may affect the custard-like consistency.
