Description
A warm, cozy dessert that combines tender apples with rich caramel and a golden oat crumble topping. Simple to make, yet special enough to serve to guests.
Ingredients
8 eating apples, peeled, cored, and cubed
6 tbsp Carnation caramel cream
50 g plain flour
50 g porridge oats
50 g cold butter, diced
Splash of water
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 200°C (fan 180°C) or gas mark 6.
- Place the apples in a saucepan with a splash of water. Cover and cook over high heat for 4–5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they start to soften.
- Stir in 3 tablespoons of caramel and transfer the apple mixture into small ovenproof dishes.
- Dot small spoonfuls of caramel (about 1 tablespoon) over the apples.
- In a bowl, mix flour and oats. Rub in the diced butter with fingertips until crumbly.
- Stir the remaining 2 tablespoons of caramel into the crumble mixture.
- Scatter the crumble over the apples in the dishes.
- Bake for 18–20 minutes, until the topping is golden and crisp and the caramel is bubbling.
Notes
- Add a pinch of cinnamon or mixed spice for extra warmth.
- Swap some oats for chopped nuts like pecans or almonds for added crunch.
- Layer in dark chocolate chunks for a rich, indulgent twist.
- Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days and reheat in the oven or microwave.
- Chill the topping mixture before baking to keep it crisp.
