Description

A warm, cozy dessert that combines tender apples with rich caramel and a golden oat crumble topping. Simple to make, yet special enough to serve to guests.

Ingredients

8 eating apples, peeled, cored, and cubed

6 tbsp Carnation caramel cream

50 g plain flour

50 g porridge oats

50 g cold butter, diced

Splash of water

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (fan 180°C) or gas mark 6.
  2. Place the apples in a saucepan with a splash of water. Cover and cook over high heat for 4–5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they start to soften.
  3. Stir in 3 tablespoons of caramel and transfer the apple mixture into small ovenproof dishes.
  4. Dot small spoonfuls of caramel (about 1 tablespoon) over the apples.
  5. In a bowl, mix flour and oats. Rub in the diced butter with fingertips until crumbly.
  6. Stir the remaining 2 tablespoons of caramel into the crumble mixture.
  7. Scatter the crumble over the apples in the dishes.
  8. Bake for 18–20 minutes, until the topping is golden and crisp and the caramel is bubbling.

Notes

  • Add a pinch of cinnamon or mixed spice for extra warmth.
  • Swap some oats for chopped nuts like pecans or almonds for added crunch.
  • Layer in dark chocolate chunks for a rich, indulgent twist.
  • Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days and reheat in the oven or microwave.
  • Chill the topping mixture before baking to keep it crisp.
