Description

A quick and flavorful Asian-inspired dish, this beef and broccoli stir fry features tender beef slices and crisp broccoli in a savory sauce, perfect for a fast, satisfying meal any night of the week.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 lbs flank steak, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon + 1 teaspoon vegetable oil, divided use
  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • 2 teaspoons minced fresh ginger
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1/4 cup oyster sauce
  • 1/4 cup beef broth or water
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 teaspoons toasted sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat 1 teaspoon of vegetable oil in a large frying pan over medium heat. Add broccoli and cook for about 4 minutes until tender.
  2. Add minced ginger and garlic; cook for 30 seconds.
  3. Remove the broccoli mixture from the pan and set aside.
  4. Wipe the pan clean and heat the remaining tablespoon of oil over high heat.
  5. Season steak slices with salt and pepper, then cook in a single layer for 3-4 minutes per side until browned.
  6. Return the broccoli to the pan and cook for 2 minutes until heated through.
  7. In a bowl, whisk together oyster sauce, beef broth, sugar, sesame oil, and soy sauce.
  8. In a separate bowl, mix cornstarch with 1 tablespoon of cold water to make a slurry.
  9. Pour the sauce over the beef and broccoli mixture and cook for 30 seconds.
  10. Add the cornstarch slurry, bring to a boil, and cook for 1 minute until the sauce thickens.
  11. Serve immediately with rice if desired.

Notes

  • Flank steak is recommended for its tenderness, but other cuts like sirloin or skirt steak also work.
  • Customize the dish with other vegetables like carrots, mushrooms, or bell peppers.
  • To make gluten-free, use gluten-free soy sauce and oyster sauce.
  • Slice beef thinly by freezing it for 30 minutes before cutting.
  • Store in the refrigerator for up to 4 days; not ideal for freezing due to broccoli texture changes.
