Description
These Banana and Caramel Filo Rolls feature crisp baked filo pastry wrapped around spiced bananas, served with a smooth caramel sauce. A light yet indulgent dessert perfect for entertaining or a quick sweet treat.
Ingredients
- 4 firm, slightly under-ripe bananas
- 4 filo pastry sheets, each cut into a large square
- 1 medium egg, beaten
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Low calorie cooking spray, as needed
- 2 tablespoons icing sugar, for dusting
- 120 ml reduced-sugar caramel dessert topping, for serving
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 180°C. Lightly spray a baking tray with low calorie cooking spray.
- Lay a filo pastry square on a clean surface. Place a banana at one end and sprinkle lightly with ground cinnamon.
- Brush the edges of the filo with beaten egg. Roll the banana in the pastry to form a sealed parcel. Press the ends to seal.
- Place the roll seam-side down on the baking tray. Repeat with remaining bananas and filo sheets.
- Brush the tops of the rolls with remaining beaten egg.
- Bake for 20–25 minutes, turning once halfway through, until golden and crisp.
- Remove from oven, dust with icing sugar, cut each roll in half, and serve with caramel sauce for dipping.
Notes
- Best served fresh while the pastry is crisp.
- Replace caramel with berry sauce or low fat custard for variation.
- Add cocoa powder or chopped nuts for extra flavor and texture.
- Assemble ahead of time and bake just before serving.
- Use slightly under-ripe bananas to avoid excess softness during baking.
