These healthy apple pie scones are soft, lightly sweet, and made with just 5 ingredients. Free from oil and full of warm cinnamon-apple flavor, they’re an easy, wholesome treat for breakfast or snack time.
Ingredients
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ cup unsweetened applesauce
- ½ cup finely diced apple, peeled
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and cinnamon. Stir to mix.
- Add the applesauce and mix until a soft dough forms.
- Fold in diced apple until evenly distributed.
- Transfer dough to the prepared baking sheet and shape into a round disc about 2.5 cm thick.
- Score the disc into 8 wedges with a sharp knife, without fully cutting through.
- Bake for 22–25 minutes until golden and firm to the touch.
- Let cool for at least 10 minutes before separating and serving.
Notes
- Use a mix of all-purpose and whole wheat flour for added fiber.
- Add maple syrup or chopped nuts for variation.
- A pinch of nutmeg or ginger can boost the apple pie flavor.
- Make mini scones by shaping smaller discs and reducing bake time.
