Description

Apple Pie French Toast is a cozy, indulgent breakfast dish layered with warm spiced apples, golden French toast, and an optional sweet cream cheese filling. It brings together the comfort of apple pie and the richness of French toast in one irresistible stack.

Ingredients

    • For The Apple Pie Filling:
    • 3 medium apples, peeled, cored, and diced
    • 2 tbsp butter
    • 2 tbsp brown sugar
    • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
    • 1 tsp cinnamon
    • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
    • 1 tsp vanilla extract
    • 1 tsp cornstarch + 1 tbsp water (optional, to thicken)

    • For The French Toast:
    • 8 slices thick bread (brioche, challah, or Texas toast)
    • 3 large eggs
    • 1 cup milk or half & half
    • 1 tsp vanilla extract
    • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
    • Pinch of salt
    • Butter for cooking

    • For The Filling Layer (Optional):
    • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
    • 2 tbsp powdered sugar

  • Toppings:
  • Powdered sugar
  • Caramel sauce or maple syrup
  • Whipped cream
  • Extra apple pie filling or fresh apple slices

Instructions

  1. In a skillet over medium heat, melt butter and add diced apples, brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Cook for 5–7 minutes until apples are soft and syrupy. Stir in vanilla extract. If needed, add the cornstarch slurry and simmer another minute to thicken. Set aside.
  2. In a shallow bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt.
  3. Heat butter in a skillet over medium heat. Dip bread slices in the egg mixture, coating both sides, then cook for 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown. Keep warm while cooking remaining slices.
  4. In a small bowl, mix softened cream cheese with powdered sugar until smooth.
  5. Spread cream cheese mixture on one slice of French toast. Top with a spoonful of apple pie filling, then add another slice of French toast on top to create a sandwich.
  6. Serve stacked French toast with powdered sugar, syrup or caramel, whipped cream, and extra apple topping if desired.

Notes

  • Make the apple pie filling ahead of time and refrigerate for quick assembly.
  • Use non-dairy milk like oat or almond for a dairy-free version.
  • Add chopped nuts between layers for crunch.
  • Try using pears or berries instead of apples for variation.
  • Freeze cooked French toast slices and reheat before assembling.
